This Corvette Owner Should Be Shot

Alright, listen – we like people who go a little DIY with their vehicles – personalizing and what not. But this, this we cannot abide. What is being dubbed the “Dragon-Vette” is really an abomination to the names Chevrolet, Corvette and automobile owners worldwide.

The customized Shi-vette was spotted in Evansville, Indiana by a member of Corvette Forum, and what started as a red with silver racing stripe Corvette became this disaster.

Spray painted stripes, taped on chrome trim, Harley Davidson headlight visors to accentuate the tail lights, stuck on custom lettering and a dragon sculpture on the hood. “It’s breathtaking in its fearless horribleness.”

Is…is that a golden bull on the dash? Or a duck? A poodle? It doesn’t look like a dragon, that’s for sure.

2012 Chevy Aveo – Yeah, They’re Making One

Apparently the only things that’ll survive the Mayan Apocalypse of 2012 are cockroaches and Chevrolet’s Aveo. Yup, first we were shocked anyone at GM would Ok 2010′s Aveo RS, but it now appears GM will stick with the tiny econo-ride for a few years more. Aveo continues to become less “crappy” looking and sportier as years progress. It’s angry front grill and stylish interior makes us think twice about all those jokes people crack…or like how we just compared Aveo to a cockroach.

The 2012 Aveo sedan will still be based on a Daewoo platform when it goes into production in 2011. Chevy’s promoting the car as a competitor to the 2011 Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit & Nissan Versa. Aveo’s future interior looks better than previous models, with a sports car-like dash (two-tone mind you) integrated control panel and a large tach with a digital information center. Maybe 2012 will finally be the year of Aveo in your driveway, and not just at Enterprise/Avis rental lots.

Holy Crap! Did You See The New Chevy Caprice Cop Car? Well, here it is! THANK YOU Jalopnik for taking & posting the photos of the Chevy Caprice PPV at the 2010 Chicago Auto Show.

“The Caprice PPV is powered by a 6.0-liter LS2 V8 engine rated at an estimated 355 HP and 384 lb-ft of torque mated to a six-speed auto transmission. Power output compares favorably to the 340 HP HEMI in the Dodge Charger police edition and absolutely blows away the Ford Crown Vic’s 250 HP 4.6-liter V8.

We’re told that bigger engine will deliver an expected best-in-class 0-to-60 time of under six seconds along with a similarly best-in-class top speed. But, for those forces uninterested in the super-sized 6.0-liter eight-cylinder engine, we’re also told a V6 engine will be offered beginning in the 2012 model year.”

Chevy Aveo RS – Yeah They Are Not Joking

Chevrolet is really pumping out the auto news with 2010′s North American International Auto Show starting next week. First they dropped a rumor that Volt may start under $40,000 and now we have a press release featuring an Aveo RS Concept. Yes, we know – the Aveo, favored only by car rental companies and recent college grads who insist on owning a new car, is coming out with a “sportier” variant. Hmm…

DETROIT – Chevrolet today announced the world debut of the Aveo RS show car at the 2010 North American International Auto Show. It features a European-inspired hot hatch look designed to appeal to young enthusiasts, and hints at the next-generation Aveo.

Longer, wider and more spacious than the current production Aveo, the Aveo RS showcases the car’s upscale-looking design cues both inside and out, and presents the many personalization options potentially available on the next-generation car.

“We hope the Aveo RS show car will demonstrate that we are as serious about redefining the Aveo and its place in the small-car segment as we were about reinventing the Malibu,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet general manager.

The Aveo RS show car, finished in electric Boracay Blue, wears global Chevrolet design cues such as the dual element grille, round taillamps and fender flares, but designers turned up the attitude on the show car with low openings and a lower mouth trimmed in a combination of brushed and polished aluminum. Outboard fog lamps are integrated into an exaggerated brake-cooling inlet that flows into the front fender flares, creating an aggressive-looking face.

Exposed headlamps, with their brushed aluminum structural surround, are inspired by the designers’ affection for motorcycles. The sleek side profile is characterized by uninterrupted body side lines, a high beltline and low roofline. The side mirrors with amber-colored turn signal indicators carry the same shape as the car and seemingly disappear into the profile. At first glance, the car actually looks like a three-door hatch because the rear door handles are discreetly located in the “C”-pillar area.

“The Aveo RS show car demonstrates how progressive design can inject personality into a small car,” said Michael Simcoe, executive director, North American Exterior Design. “We want customers to see it and have an emotional reaction to it.”

No performance-minded car earns its street cred without large wheels and tires. The Aveo RS show car’s wheels are 19-inch, five-spoke with a gun metal metallic finish Chevrolet logo. The wheel openings reveal large Boracay Blue brake calipers.

The rear of the show car continues the sport theme, with an integrated spoiler that flows from the roof, a center-mounted exhaust and chrome exhaust tips. The exposed motorcycle-inspired rear taillamps feature tinted aluminum housings and a discreet Bowtie logo.

Sprayed, Cooked and Broiled – Silverado Vs. Tractor Trailer

Tis The season for holiday traffic – or “amateur night” as my father calls it. When a truck carrying Cooking Spray and a Chevy Silverado compete for highway space, the results are disastrous. This accident occurred on a Florida highway, where an extended-cab Silverado apparently cut off a semi-truck full of cooking spray.

As you can see below, the chain of events lead to the complete destruction of the trailer, a beaten up Chevy pickup, and people who will have to sort to the old fashioned use of butter to grease their pans up Christmas morning:

According to WFTV-9 News: “The semi truck driver, 46-year-old Willie Finn, is expected to recover from his injuries. The driver of the pick-up truck that crashed into the semi, Daniel Davis, got a $166 ticket for running the stop sign. Amazingly, both drivers in the crash were out of the hospital Monday afternoon and doing okay.”

Chevy Announces 2010 Camaro SS Pace Car

General Motors may be having a hard time selling Saab, but one thing that’s always guaranteed from them is a hot Indianapolis 500 Pace Car. For 2010, Chevrolet has not disappointed: Introducing the 2010 Chevy Camaro SS Indy 500 Pace Car.

Indy isn’t coming until May, but at the Brickyard this Inferno Orange metallic Camaro will make its 6th pace car running in the 500 since 1967. It comes stock with a 6.2-liter V8 pumping out 400 horse power. Included in the package is an all-new front grill that Chevrolet plans to offer as a future Camaro accessory, 2010 Indianapolis 500 event logo badges on front fenders, amber lens tail lamps, and 2010 Indianapolis 500 event logo painted on the doors and embroidered on driver/passenger headrests. Officials from Chevrolet and Indianapolis Motor Speedway unveiled the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS Indianapolis 500 pace car at the Speedway’s Hall of Fame Museum today.

“We’ve enjoyed a great partnership with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway throughout the years, and are proud to once again have the privilege of pacing the Indianapolis 500 in a Camaro,” said Jim Campbell, General Manager, Chevrolet.

The 2010 Chevy Camaro Indianapolis 500 pace car is a 21st century sports car that looks to the future with a nod to both the car’s and the race’s heritage. The first year for Camaro to pace the Indianapolis 500 was in 1967, the year the Camaro made its debut. Camaro has since paced the race in 1969, 1982, 1993 and 2009.

This year’s pace car features an Inferno Orange Metallic paint scheme with White Diamond rally stripes that travel from the front to the rear over the top of the body, as well as extending to the instrument panel. The design is a modern interpretation of the original rally stripe that debuted on the 1969 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car.

“Chevrolet has done it again with the 2010 Chevy Camaro SS Pace Car, it is simply beautiful,” said Jeff Belskus, president and CEO of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation. “The car’s tribute to ‘500’ history and its sports car feel will be a big hit with our fans, and it will look great leading the Indianapolis 500 field on Race Day.”

This year’s pace car is equipped with a stock 400 hp 6.2L V-8, an RS appearance package and leather interior with Inferno Orange interior accents. The pace car also features unique design cues that further enhance the Camaro’s head-turning design. Features unique to the pace car include:

2011 Chevrolet Cruze – Specs and Official Photos

We are all tingly now that Chevy has released official Photos of the 2011 Cruze. Once a concept that was going to come from their Lordstown, Ohio assembly line, the vehicle has been designed for mass production! These official press photos accompany GM’s information and specs on all the lovely new variants of 2011′s Cruze, available for sale by late 2010 at local Chevrolet Dealerships.

Available in three trim levels (LS, LT and LTZ), the Cruze will come nicely equipped with electronic stability control, 16-inch wheels, soft-touch interior components, and a six speaker stereo system (with MP3 playback and an auxiliary jack). According to Chevrolet’s product marketing manager, Margaret Brooks, “At a very competitive price, you’ll be able to get a Cruze with leather and heated front seats, 16-inch aluminum wheels, XM Satellite Radio, OnStar, Bluetooth, a USB port for your iPod, cruise control, power locks and power outside mirrors.”

Under the hood, two different four-cylinder engines will be offered. The 1.8-liter Ecotec (standard on LS models) produces 136 hp (101 kW) and 123 lb-ft (167 Nm) of torque. On the other hand, LT and LTZ Cruzes will be equipped with a turbocharged 1.4-liter Ecotec engine that produces 138 horsepower (103 kW) and 148 lb-ft of torque (200 Nm). Connected to a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, GM predicts the Cruze will be able to obtain a fuel economy rating of 40 mpg highway. Set to go on sale in the third quarter of 2010, the Cruze will likely be priced from $16,000 USD.

Chevrolet unveils the U.S. production version of the 2011 Cruze compact sedan at the L.A. Auto Show on Dec. 2. It is a global car refined for America, delivering many segment-leading features and details that challenge preconceived notions about what a compact car can be in North America.

Too Much Truck for Chevy – Silverado ZR2 Concept

Made for SEMA and most likely never to be a mass produce vehicle – the Chevy Silverado ZR2 Concept is a 550 horse power rocket of an ass-hauling pickup that makes us wan to dream of dirt roads. If we may quote Jalopnik – “there’s not a chance in hell it’ll ever be built.” Sadly, we couldn’t agree more. But she sure is sexy! Read the press release below, and just dream…

Silverado ZR2 concept
At a glance, it’s clear the Silverado ZR2 concept wasn’t designed to haul flowers back from the nursery. With its widened body, tall stance and powerful LS supercharged engine, it is ready to hit the berms, dry washes and gullies of the Baja Peninsula.

The Silverado ZR2 is based on an extended cab/short box body. The custom bodywork includes carbon fiber fender flares that stretch outward to cover the 35-inch-tall Goodyear Wrangler off-road tires and widened stance. Much of the truck’s body is made of carbon fiber, including the front fenders, extractor-style hood, rocker extensions and tailgate, which features large, debossed CHEVROLET lettering as a nod to Chevy trucks of the past.

The pickup box, which is protected with a spray-on liner, features a unique locking storage system mounted to the extruded aluminum Cargo Management System rails from Chevy Accessories.

Many of the carbon fiber parts, including the hood, are clear-coated, rather than painted, to show off the intricate weave pattern of the high-tech, lightweight material. The parts that aren’t clear carbon fiber are painted Dune Metallic, a color that blends with the desert terrain. A large, more prominent grille is also part of the package and is a vision of what designers would like to see in a production or accessory part. It is very functional, feeding cool air to the 550-horsepower LS supercharged crate engine from GM Performance Parts.

The combination of 20-inch BBS RD wheels – reminiscent of historic Chevy truck wheel – and aggressive Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tires connect to the chassis via BDS shocks and a four-inch lift kit to help negotiate those desert trails. The new front fascia dramatically improves approach angle and skid plates protect the chassis.

The interior features more carbon fiber details on the dash, along with black leather and suede-trimmed seats with contrasting stitching to those trail runs more comfortable.

“There’s more to this concept than meets the eye,” said Dewar. “Some of the components are being explored for possible inclusion in upcoming models.”

Return of the Chevy Caprice Police Cruiser

What was that? The Return of the Chevy Caprice Police Cruiser!?!?!?!?!!? YES! You are correct!! America may not be getting the Holden “G8 Sports Truck / El Camino / Whatever else you want to call it” but we are going to witness the resurrection of Caprice in 2011, specifically for police patrols, and it is built on the same rear-wheeled platform as the dearly departed G8.

Officially named Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle (PPV), General Motors will produce the vehicles in association with Australian Company Holden Motors for 2011. According to GM, the Caprice will have a 6.0-liter LS2 V8 engine rated at an estimated 355 HP and 384 lb-ft of torque mated to a six-speed auto transmission – this compares nicely to 340 horse power HEMI Dodge Charger police edition, and kicks the ass of the Ford Crown Vic 250 HP 4.6-liter V8. We figure it will only be a matter of time before 2011 Caprice vehicles are being chopped on the streets of Philly. One Chicago jazz-&-blues musician commented on Caprice: “It’s got a cop motor, it’s got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks.”
