Chevy has been hiding the 2011 Camaro Convertible from public viewing, but it may have been discovered testing out West. AutoBlog.com picked up on a photo of the top-down Camaro hiding behind a fence – so why are we not super-exited? Reports are GM is going ahead with a Camaro topless edition – but perhaps canceling the Z28 variant originally planned for next year.

According to The Motor Authority: “Cost cutting at GM and fears that the German supplier of the Camaro Convertible’s roof mechanism was about to go under led to last week’s claims that the car was put on hold indefinitely. However, the supplier in question is still in business and has a new agreement signed with GM. ”

General Motors figures a $50 million development price for the Z28, and as Motor Authority added its “niche status” will probably keep this muscle car down. If the Chevy Z28 (aka, IROC baby!) does come to life, expect a 550hp 6.2L V8 engine from the Cadillac CTS-V to the Camaro’s engine bay.

It’s tough being an employee of General Motors these days – CFO’s and CEO’s are coming and going, white and blue collar employees are being laid off. Now, GM is ordering 13 plants across North America to be set to idle.

The company says it will pause production (temporarily – yeah right) of 13 assembly lines across the United States and Mexico. Part of the reason this is happening is a dispute between GM and one of its major suppliers Delphi. Here’s a list of the effected plants: GM says it will shut down the following U.S. plants: Arlington, Texas (eight weeks beginning May 11); Bowling Green, Kentucky (one week beginning July 13); Detroit-Hamtramck (all of June); Fairfax, Kansas (one week beginning June 29); Flint, Michigan (eight weeks beginning May11); Ft. Wayne, Indiana (nine weeks beginning May 11); Lansing, Michigan (four weeks beginning May 4); Lordstown, Ohio (three weeks beginning June 1); Pontiac, Michigan (six weeks beginning June 1); Shreveport, Louisiana (three weeks beginning June 15); Spring Hill, Tennessee (three weeks beginning June 8); Wilmington, Delaware (two weeks beginning June 15); and Wentzville, Missouri (three weeks beginning June 8). The automaker’s Silao, Mexico, plant will shut down for seven weeks beginning May 18.

Although, according to Left Lane News, GM’s new CEO Fritz Henderson said the automaker would close some of its assembly plants, but the automaker has not announced locations yet.

General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner (which sounds like the name of a SUV in Grand Theft Auto) is heading from Detroit to Washington (DC, not the place with all those trees and hippies) to meet up with Congress and the heads of fellow Big Three-ers Ford and Chrysler. It’s a momentous occasion, because all the owners decided to park their private jets, on this second begging attempt, and come into town showing off the latest hybrid vehicles from their respective companies. Mr. GM was first to make his was through morning DC traffic in a Chevrolet Volt electric car built into the new Chevrolet Cruze mule.

Several news outlets are reporting that GM has adjusted their asking price for temporary salvation at $4 Billion in December and another $4 Bill in January. Convincing Congress to bail out these American Automakers might be an impossible feet, but at least Rick knows how to show off not one but two of Chevy’s best new products at one time.
