Sales of the Chevrolet Cobalt have been surprisingly good for General Motors, up 56 percent through February, but the strike at American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. may slow that down.

The strike at American Axle is preventing GM’s Lordstown, OH, plant from receiving a brake part that it needs for production of the Cobalt. GM has stated that the plant may have to shut down April 4th if the part doesn’t start rolling in again soon. There’s also a limited supply of the vehicle, only 49 days worth as of February 1st, so spring Cobalts may be hard to come by.

A plant shutdown could affect about 3,000 people, 2,400 GM workers at the Ohio plant, and over 300 more at other factories. That’s aside from the 3,650 American Axle employees on strike.

Who doesn’t want to drive around in a striking, sleek, swift and sporty coupe? The new 2008 Cobalt Coupe Sport is one vehicle that flashes past the competition.

This new model is outfitted with a 2.4L ECOTEC Engine. This dual overhead cam, 16-valve High Output engine proves the driver with exceptional performance and 171 horsepower; you’ll also be saving on gas with 22 city and 32 highway mpg. The 2008 model comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission, and it has a four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission—with overdrive—available as an optional feature.

Another feature to note in this outstanding vehicle is Traction Control attribute, which comes standard on the Sport model. What it does is use ABS sensors to automatically detect and act to decrease wheel skidding. On the interior the driver is provided with an electronic GM Oil Life Monitor, DIC, two auxiliary power outlets, and the standard frontal & head curtain side-impact airbags.

This compact car features tuned sports suspension and an attractive exterior design to boot. If you want to gracefully swarm the streets in this sporty and lustrous vessel, check out the 2008 Cobalt Coupe Sport model!
