Chevrolet Impala may be solely responsible for creating 2500 jobs in Michigan. We knew there was a reason to love one of GM’s classic cars.

The next generation of Chevrolet Impala sedans will come from General Motor’s Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant, which will also be home to the Chevy Volt and upcoming 2013 Chevrolet Malibu.

GM says that it will add two shifts and 2,500 workers to the facility. “GM will initially offer the positions to its 1,350 laid-off UAW workers before opening up the positions to the buying public,” adds Left Lane News.

“Filling this plant with new work is very satisfying because GM is dedicated to helping rebuild this city,” GM North America President Mark Reuss said at the plant today. “We are confident in the flexibility of the plant, the excellence of our workers and the great cars assembled here.”

The next Impala will begin production in 2013. The vehicle is expected to be more “consumer market-competitive” than the current Impala. The 2012 Impala will retain its current shape and specs, but receive a new V6 engine.

In fact, the classic GM logo may be turning green too.

According to MSNBC: General Motors could literally turn green as it readies itself for major management and cultural changes that will coincide with its escape from bankruptcy protection. People briefed on its plans say the company is looking into changing the background color of its corporate logo from blue to green in an effort to show consumers that it is leaner and greener, more focused on fuel efficiency and better able to make quick decisions.

Ed Welburn, GM’s vice president of design, is leading a group that is studying name and logo changes, but no recommendation has been made, according to one of the people. Changing the background of the familiar square blue-and-white GM logo has been discussed, said the people, who requested anonymity because no decision has been reached.

Is Chevrolet’s Cruze the gas powered (i.e.: non-hybrid) version of Chevy’s Volt? Or is it just the next Cobalt? The Chevy Cruze is a fuel efficient vehicle for the masses. Sure, we’d probably all love a hot hybrid Volt, but not everyone can afford the supposed $35k price tag, plus the cost of (battery) charging and regular repairs. If you’re looking for a new car with plenty of gas mileage, over 40 MPG total according to General Motors, than Cruze is your best bet.

A 4-cyl turbocharged 1.4 liter engine, which is all internal combustion, produces the power to this little next generation Cobalt-esque vehicle. There will be a diesel version for the European audience available in 2009, and America will have their shot at the Cruze in full gasoline mode by late 2010. No official price has been set, but even if we’re talking low-to-mid $20′s the Cruze will win back the hearts of waning Chevrolet fans.
