They say black is beautiful, and with the BlakRoc 2010 Camaro SS Edition you know they’re right. It may be the first record to be released with a sports car – “The Black Keys combine their garage/blues rock sensibilities with a cast of hip hop all-stars. It’s almost a Wu Tang Clan rally with Raekwon, Rza, and even a posthumous ODB performance as well as Mos Def, Q-tip and others.”

The car itself looks gorgeous, but all its highlights are anything spectacular for this edition – they’re everything already included with a Camaro SS:
• Boston Acoustics Premium Audio
• USB Port
• Bluetooth Wireless
• Four Pack of Auxiliary Gauges
• Leather-Appointented Front Seats
• 22″ Lexani LX15 Wheels*
• 20% Tint All Around
• Blacked out Rear Taillights
• Blacked out SS Badge
• Blacked out Marker Lights
• Blacked out Reverse Lights
• Custom stitched BlakRoc Logo on Center Console
• Custom Door Sill Plates with BlakRoc Logo

Other original touches include blacked-out logos/lights, tint, Lexani wheels and custom BlacRoc door sills. The car and album can be picked up on “BlacFriday” – get it? Wakka wakka!

Chevrolet’s 2010 Camaro has only been out for a few months – and already we are shocked (yet, not surprised) by various reports of smashed and totaled Camaro’s. There’s a great line from the Transporter film series (I said great line, not great movies) where Jason Statham states “you’re only as good as the car you drive” – I look at it as “the car is only as good as its driver.” These car owners are sullying the name Chevy Camaro, which is something to be left for IROC!

Last week 2010′s Chevy Camaro received an unexpected four-star crash test rating for driver and passenger frontal collisions – while the sides and rear received five-stars. Not that you could tell, judging from this totaled Camaro SS, seen below. Apparently, the vehicle was “reduced to a pile of scrap by an uninsured unlicensed teenager in a Ford Escape.” – Though it’s not much worse then the front end of the above Black Camaro.

And of course when you rent a car you’re taking over for whatever abuse the last renter did – the above Avis Camaro rental went a little over on gunning-it, ending up with a ripped off bumper. That’s not nearly as sad as this Detroit car tester (below) – who left his 2010 Camaro unlocked one evening and woke up to find all 4 wheels stolen. Yes, we know it doesn’t matter if the car is locked or not to snag them rims, but the victim felt pointing that out helped his case.

Lastly, a recent Camaro buyer was so excited to get his new SS home he drove it off a lift, directly into his living room. The man was drunk, obviously, blowing three-times the legal limit. Although now would be a good time for him to start building a garage.

We’ll agree with Jay on certain points – it’s a great looking car, and for the price you get quite a bit of horse power. But can this vehicle save Chevy, or General Motors? It seems these newer GM “muscle” cars, along with SUV’s fill a niche market, but can’t meet the quote of a sedan of crossover, at least within the United States. Plus, with reports that Camaro cracks under 150 MPH it’s not the tops for weekend road warrior. Don’t get us wrong, we’d love to see Camaro SS bring muscle car back to America and Chevrolet, and 14,000 pre-orders they had before the car was officially released? Not bad. Of course, now that almost all SS production has been put to a grinding halt, Chevy may need to head in a smaller, more alt-fuel direction to be their saving grace.

Eeek! Say it isn’t so! But apparently the cracks have come to GM (in more ways than just Government Financiers – wakka wakka!) But the drivers of an all new Chevrolet Camaro have reported cracked front end issues after a test run putting it past the 150 mile per hour mark.

This sighting comes from PlantLSX.com, who stated that after a run of 155 mph, the front end of this 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS cracked on both sides! The test vehicle was only a week old, and also right off the line production. But fear not, because it has already been follows up with on PlanetLSX’s blog:

“Apparently this was an early production nose, slapped on to get it to Hennessey for parts development. The issue has been addressed and repaired on other cars. Something about a bolted bracket not being installed properly.”

Chevrolet has finally released an official press release, pictures, specs and video of that all new 2010 Camaro. From the get-go it looks like Chevrolet will hit the market with a Camaro LT, LS and the V8 Supercharged SS package. This gives up hope, as we recently asked if Camaro can be the steroids in the arms (or behind) of General Motors.

According to World Car Fans: When equipped with the 3.6 liter direct-injection V6 (standard in the Camaro LT and LS), the rear-drive Camaro is rated at 18/29 with the automatic transmission. The six-speed manual gives up just one mpg in the city. Opt for the 6.2 liter V8-powered Camaro SS and its 400-horse L99 (automatic) or 426-horse LS3 (manual), and you’ll get 16/25 or 16/24 economy, respectively. GM says the Camaro bests the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger when it comes to fuel economy, in any case. It’s got what it takes to best them on the track as well, with Autoblog reporting an unofficial 4.7-second 0-60 run for the Camaro SS.

Chevrolet already has 14,000+ pre-orders for Camaro – which began production on March 16th. Check out full details in the Chevrolet press release below.

THE 2010 CHEVROLET CAMARO – A FUN, EFFICIENT SPORTS CAR FOR THE 21st CENTURY

The wait is over. After a seven-year hiatus, the new Chevrolet Camaro is now back in dealer showrooms.

Combining great looks, performance and advanced technology, the 2010 Camaro honors its heritage while delivering on customer expectations of a sports coupe for the 21st century.

“The new Camaro delivers a modern, advanced package of performance, comfort and technology,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager and General Motors vice president. “It’s a personal car for a generation of enthusiasts, both young and old, that honors the Camaro’s heritage with a thoroughly contemporary design.

Built on the new global rear-wheel-drive passenger car platform, Camaro embodies GM’s global vehicle development and design process. The original design concept was conceived in the United States, with engineering shared by both Australia and U.S. teams. Validation was conducted on roads throughout the world and assembly is handled by GM’s award-winning plant in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada.

Design features

With a design that is very close to the original concept, the 2010 Camaro acknowledges its heritage from the first-generation Camaro, produced from 1967 through 1969. The two-door sports coupe features classic proportions over a 112.3-inch (2,852 mm) wheelbase. The overall length of the Camaro is 190.4 inches (4,836 mm); width and height are 75.5 inches (1,918 mm) and 54.2 inches (1,376 mm), respectively.

The long hood and short deck are pushed to the far corners of the muscular fender forms and a fast, 67-degree rake windshield contributes to aerodynamic performance that includes a 0.37 coefficient of drag (Cd) on V-6 models and a slightly sleeker 0.35 Cd on the V-8-powered SS model.

Wheel arch openings received special attention through the design process. Whether the Camaro is equipped with the standard 18-inch, or optional 19-inch or 20-inch wheels, the relationship of the top of the tire and bottom of the fender is consistent on all models. All models also feature the classic “V” design motif in the nose, along with a 2.5-inch (63.5 mm) power dome in the aluminum hood, reminiscent of high-performance Camaro models. On SS models, a simulated air intake is located in the upper front fascia and the lower air intake is larger.

On the top, designers took a cue from Corvette and sculpted twin cockpits across the roof, giving the vehicle a distinctive Chevrolet presence. From the outside, the B-pillar is invisible to the eye, lending the true appearance of a hardtop coupe. The B-pillar is designed to provide increased structural rigidity to the car. And to ensure quality in the manufacturing process, a one-piece body stamping provides a cleaner overall side appearance that is free of seams, gaps or plastic appliqués. “Gills” located in the front of the rear quarter panel also are familiar Camaro styling cues.

Ten exterior colors are available and include Black, Victory Red, Rally Yellow and Silver Ice Metallic. Red Jewel Tintcoat is also available as an option. The color palette also includes Cyber Gray Metallic, Aqua Blue Metallic, Inferno Orange Metallic, White and Imperial Blue Metallic.

An RS appearance package is available on LT and SS. It includes HID headlamps with integrated halo rings, a rear spoiler on LT, specific taillamps and 20-inch wheels with a Midnight Silver finish.

Interior details

Inside the four-passenger cabin, a well-executed balance of heritage, modern design and attention to detail conveys simplicity and refinement with contemporary details in the cluster, switches, dials and lighting. An available ambient light package, for example, offers advanced LED light pipe technology, giving the cabin a distinctive glow.

Deep, recessed gauges, located in square housings outlined in chrome, give a nod to the classic Camaro interior. The instrument panel gauges include both speedometer and engine rpm, with a driver information center located between the large gauges – its readouts and features controlled via a stalk on the steering column. An optional, console-mounted gauge package includes oil pressure, oil temperature, volts and transmission fluid temperature. The gauge package is included on 2LT and 2SS models.

Cloth upholstery is standard and leather-appointed seats are included on 2LT and 2SS models. Four-way manual adjustment including fore/aft and up/down on the driver seat and two-way adjustment on the passenger seat is standard.
Safety

The Camaro offers a comprehensive system of safety features – starting with a robust body structure and integral safety cage around the passenger compartment. High-strength steel and ultra high-strength steels are used in key areas throughout the structure. Safety technologies also include:

* Driver and front passenger dual-stage air bags
* Driver and front passenger seat-mounted thorax side-impact air bags
* Head curtain side-impact air bags for front- and rear-seat occupants
* Front-seat safety belt load limiters and pretensioners
* A front passenger detection system that senses children and small-stature adults, and suppresses air bag deployment when appropriate.

In both doors, an interlock pin is utilized to prevent intrusion into the passenger compartment and adds stiffness to the door structure by engaging with a clevis bracket set into the rocker panel.
