Chevrolet is 100 years old today, and still looking pretty good. Sure, there have been a few scrapes along the way, especially in recent years. GM needed government funding, and before that was Cobalt. Oh, let us not forget 80′s era Chevette.

Everyone makes mistakes, what matters is if one learns from them. Chevy Has.

Chevrolet is celebrating its Centennial with help from their all new Chevy Cruze. This fresh model has sold millions of units across the globe, including 1 million just in the US alone.

Cruze is key to the global expansion of Chevrolet, and one of the top-selling models in all the markets: including India, China, Russia, and other developing countries.

“I can’t think of a better birthday present,” said Karl Slym, President and Managing Director, General Motors India. “Cruze’s combination of style, comfort, fuel-efficiency and safety is a hit across the globe.”

Chevrolet began as a General Motors brand on Nov. 3rd, 1911 in Detroit, MI. With its headquarters still located in The Motor City, we can see another century of Chevy coming our way.

Rumor has it that a Chevrolet Dealer will sell Chevrolet Caprice modified police cruisers to the general public. I suppose that’s better than getting one at an auction.

Criswell Chevrolet of Gaithersburg, Md., is apparently selling the 355-hp V8 Chevrolet Caprice, which was supposed to be a law-enforcement only vehicle by General Motors.

The dealership outfitted 13 sedans with additional features, including power windows and power seats. The list prices run from $31,000 to $37,000, not a bad price considering the only other rear-wheel-drive GM car is the $67,000 Cadillac CTS-V.

According to source Jalopnik: “The Caprice is the first vehicle GM has sold in decades that’s supposed to be limited exclusively to police departments. But GM didn’t explicitly say in the Caprice sales contracts with its dealers that the car could only be sold to law enforcement agencies. That means Criswell — or any other dealer with a Caprice on its lot today — is free to sell them to whomever has the money. Unfortunately for Caprice fans, Criswell’s sale has made GM aware of its mistake, and all future contracts will carry GM’s public sale ban.”

Admittedly, the officially unveiled by GM 2013 Chevrolet Malibu is not as exciting as previous “leaked” photos perceived it to be. GM has quickly taken a lot of those teaser and concept images off the web, and replaced them with this over-sized Chevy Cruze looking Malibu.

But the car is ferocious, and we’re happy to see that rounded, oblong front end give way to a meaner looking grille.

We’re also excited by this fancy pop-up radio, also peeking out of a leaked photo released the other day. It’s an exciting time to get into a Chevrolet Malibu, or at least it will be come 2013 (you know, if we survive the apocalypse).

Via Autocar – Celebrated General Motors vice chairman Bob Lutz will retire on 1 May, ending a 47-year career in the car industry.

Lutz, 78, has worked at GM, BMW, Chrysler, and Ford. He previously retired from GM last February, but was tempted back following its government-backed restructuring.

Lutz said: “I can confidently say that the job I came here to do more than nine years ago is now complete. The team I have been fortunate to lead has far exceeded my expectations.

“Our product line-up is as strong as it has been in GM’s history. The perception of our products and brands is beginning to catch up with reality.

“And most importantly, the absolute commitment to being a product-driven company is ingrained throughout the organisation – from the top down – and I am confident that, under Ed Whitacre’s leadership, the straightforward, singular focus on product will endure.”

Lutz has long been known as one of the car industry’s more colourful characters. Perhaps his most notorious quote occurred in 2008 when he was quoted as describing global warming as “a crock of shit”.

He defended his comments, saying, “My thoughts on what has or hasn’t been the cause of climate change have nothing to do with the decisions I make to advance the cause of General Motors.”

Chevy has been hiding the 2011 Camaro Convertible from public viewing, but it may have been discovered testing out West. AutoBlog.com picked up on a photo of the top-down Camaro hiding behind a fence – so why are we not super-exited? Reports are GM is going ahead with a Camaro topless edition – but perhaps canceling the Z28 variant originally planned for next year.

According to The Motor Authority: “Cost cutting at GM and fears that the German supplier of the Camaro Convertible’s roof mechanism was about to go under led to last week’s claims that the car was put on hold indefinitely. However, the supplier in question is still in business and has a new agreement signed with GM. ”

General Motors figures a $50 million development price for the Z28, and as Motor Authority added its “niche status” will probably keep this muscle car down. If the Chevy Z28 (aka, IROC baby!) does come to life, expect a 550hp 6.2L V8 engine from the Cadillac CTS-V to the Camaro’s engine bay.
