Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback Revealed

Chevrolet has finally released official photos of what their Cruze hatchback (built primarily for UK shoppers) will look like. Needless to say, we want a hatchback Cruze in the US of A! The Cruze hatchback was first seen last year at the Paris and Geneva Motor Shows.

The five-door model “is a crucial car for Chevrolet in Western Europe as it gives hatchback practicality to the Cruze range for the first time,” according to Autocar.co.uk.

Chevrolet said Cruze hatchback will come with “a new range of engines” that will be topped by the 161bhp 2.0-liter turbodiesel powerplant mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The auto maker claims Cruze five-door brings “new levels of style its versatility”.

Lady Gaga might have stormed the red carpet, but Chevrolet’s Cruze took over the screen while performing with N.E.R.D. at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.

General Motors’ all-new 2011 Chevy Cruze made an appearance at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards, staring in a video with hip hop trio N.E.R.D. The video features Cruze in a 1950s-style drive-in along side other Chevy cars and trucks. This ends a week-long advertising blitz hyping the compact’s production launch in Lordstown, Ohio.

The Cruze may be one of Chevrolet’s most important releases to date – and arrives in dealer showrooms soon.

GM officials are hopeful the Cruze will give the top-selling Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla some stiff competition.

To help woo buyers, the company has embarked on an aggressive advertising campaign, to reach young buyers as well as more mature ones who like a small car, but don’t want to sacrifice comfort. GM has made standard on the Cruze features that usually are offered as options.

The Cruze’s launch is the first major marketing push for GM’s new U.S. marketing vice president, Joel Ewanick, who came over to GM from Hyundai this year. It will include television spots as well as social media, shows and events and compare the Cruze to other competitors in its class.

A Letter to Corolla from Chevy Cruze

In this latest installment of ads for the all new Chevrolet Cruze, Tim the Tool-man Taylor (Tim Allen) reads an open letter to the competition. This TV spot, which began airing last month, is part of a new campaign that touts the efficiency and interior styling of Cruze, or as we like to call it “Cobalt, if they got it right.”

Another spot for Cruze talks about how hard it is being the new kid on the block, with “Lexus quiet” interior and standard Bluetooth.

God Saved Lordstown, and That God is Chevy Cruze

In a previous article on Chevy-pedia, we talked about Lordstown: a large GM assembly line that employed an entire town East of Cleveland, in North East Ohio. With job cuts at all levels swamping General Motors and less cars being produced in America, it seemed like Lordstown, OH would fall into the same category as Flint, Michigan – probably ending up in some Michael Moore doc. Well, things sometimes come around for the little guy – this week General Motors announced they will add extra shifts at their Lordstown Assembly Line to help compensate for the growing numbers of Chevrolet Cruze orders. I guess Howie Long is doing a good job pimping them.

In 2008, Lordstown was supposed to be one of GM’s 24-hour moving plants, producing cars every hour of the day. By January 2009, two shifts were eliminated at Lordstwown, idling some 2,800 workers. “Last April, GM idled the whole plant for three weeks to cut supply and lower operating costs.”

According to AutoBlog – “The addition of a third shift should bring a number of union employees back to work building the all-important new Cruze…”

How To Get Out of a Contract – by General Motors

In order to save every last penny, a Federal Judge gave struggling auto maker General Motors the ok to cut over 50 sponsorship contracts before their terms were up. Does this mean no flashy Chevrolet Cruze commercials for Transformers 3: Revenge of Michael Bay?

If you’re stuck in a lease, contract, or other legally bonded agreement with a signed document in tow just follow these easy steps (as GM did) to get out of it:
1) Make something many people want but no one can afford (ie: giant SUV’s) when you should be making something smaller and, for example, more fuel efficient.
2) Run out of money after making mass amounts of said product and having it not sell due to global recession.
3) Call your local Government for billions of dollars in bailout funds.
4) When that doesn’t work, tell them if you can get out of this (contract/lease/etc) because it’s too expensive they’ll give you the ok!

According to Detroit News, not even iconic and historic structures are safe. The giant Chevrolet Clock at Times Square will no longer brand a Chevy logo – as it has since the 1930s. The clock underwent an expensive, and major technological redesign in 2007. Estimates have been thrown around for how much all this will save GM, we’ve heard anywhere from $31 to $82 Billion dollars.

From Detroit to DC in a Chevy Volt Hybrid

General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner (which sounds like the name of a SUV in Grand Theft Auto) is heading from Detroit to Washington (DC, not the place with all those trees and hippies) to meet up with Congress and the heads of fellow Big Three-ers Ford and Chrysler. It’s a momentous occasion, because all the owners decided to park their private jets, on this second begging attempt, and come into town showing off the latest hybrid vehicles from their respective companies. Mr. GM was first to make his was through morning DC traffic in a Chevrolet Volt electric car built into the new Chevrolet Cruze mule.

Several news outlets are reporting that GM has adjusted their asking price for temporary salvation at $4 Billion in December and another $4 Bill in January. Convincing Congress to bail out these American Automakers might be an impossible feet, but at least Rick knows how to show off not one but two of Chevy’s best new products at one time.

Chevrolet Cruze – The Gas Powered Volt?

Is Chevrolet’s Cruze the gas powered (i.e.: non-hybrid) version of Chevy’s Volt? Or is it just the next Cobalt? The Chevy Cruze is a fuel efficient vehicle for the masses. Sure, we’d probably all love a hot hybrid Volt, but not everyone can afford the supposed $35k price tag, plus the cost of (battery) charging and regular repairs. If you’re looking for a new car with plenty of gas mileage, over 40 MPG total according to General Motors, than Cruze is your best bet.

A 4-cyl turbocharged 1.4 liter engine, which is all internal combustion, produces the power to this little next generation Cobalt-esque vehicle. There will be a diesel version for the European audience available in 2009, and America will have their shot at the Cruze in full gasoline mode by late 2010. No official price has been set, but even if we’re talking low-to-mid $20′s the Cruze will win back the hearts of waning Chevrolet fans.
