GM Announces Crossover Hybrid

General Motors western group manager Dave Barthmuss announced a plug-in hybrid crossover for the 2012 North American International Auto Show. Speculation suggests this vehicle could be the production version of Volt’s MPV5 concept.

Reports state the crossover features a 16-kWh lithium-ion battery with 150 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. The concept travels up to 32 miles on electricity alone, then a 1.4-liter engine acts as a generator extends range up to 300 miles.

There’s also the possibility this hybrid crossover could be based on the Chevrolet Equinox.
