Obama Test Drives The Volt
What kind of car does the President of the United States take for a test drive? Why, an American-made Chevrolet Volt EV of course. Obama went over to Holland, Michigan the other day in order to check out a car created by GM, but invested by the United States governments, thanks to federal bailouts.
Holland is a small town that will be home to the new LG Chem-owned Compact Power battery plant, a key supplier of Volt equipment.
The extended-range Volt is capable of 40 all-electric miles, and can travel for 340 miles on a single tank of gas, according to Chevrolet. Real world tests have yet to be complete – but it will most likely do better than a Chevy Avalanche.
During the groundbreaking ceremony at Compact Power’s upcoming facility, President Obama said the location will be a key factor in creating growth in the American high-tech industry. The plant was given the go-ahead after receiving a $151 million U.S. stimulus grant, roughly half the cost of the total project.
Chevrolet Volt is coming to dealers in late 2010. If you’re in Chicago visit Phillips Chevrolet.
