Chevy Beat - Will Chevrolet’s Mini-Car Make It To The U.S.?

An automotive meteorologist may proclaim that the winds of change are blowing. The Smart car soon will zip around our cities, and Toyota aiming for the mini-car market with their IQ, whose production version was recently unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. So what does Chevrolet have to claim their fair share of the market? The Chevy Beat.

True, there are no plans (at least public ones) for the Beat to be sold in the United States. But with Smart and the Toyota IQ hitting dealers you do the math. Also, the Beat was selected from a group of 3 possible GM mini-cars largely by us in the U.S.

What we do know is that around mid-2009 the Chevrolet Beat will go into production in South Korea. Shortly after Asia and Europe will have access to the uber-small car.

The Chevrolet Beat

The Beat will appeal to young drivers who have lighter wallets and seek out unique styling, and the more green-conscious. While GM has not released details on the engine, it’s certainly going to be more environmentally friendly than most due to it’s small size.

GM will have an option in the mini-car market, and given the Beat’s head start, we’re putting our money on the little guy.
